{"id":121,"date":"2011-11-02T08:00:34","date_gmt":"2011-11-02T07:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.procamera-app.com\/?p=121"},"modified":"2026-02-12T10:20:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T09:20:16","slug":"procamera-update-3-3-steady-light-brightens-up-your-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/procamera-app.com\/en\/blog\/procamera-update-3-3-steady-light-brightens-up-your-world\/","title":{"rendered":"ProCamera Update 3.3 \u2013 Volume Trigger, Steady Light and much more"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<a href=\"https:\/\/www.procamera-app.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/ProCamera-Logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-79\" title=\"ProCamera Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.procamera-app.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/ProCamera-Logo-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" height=\"105\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>3.3 Status: Approved!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.procamera-app.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daemgen.net<\/a>\u00a0team has been hard at work on the latest ProCamera enhancements, and we are pleased that Apple&#8217;s iTunes Store Team has approved <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Update 3.3\u00a0<\/span>and it is now available for download on iTunes!<\/p>\n<p>Update 3.3 brings many upgrades and two new feature\/functions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Volume Trigger<\/span> (photos via volume control button or via headset controls)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Steady Light<\/span> (photoflash and permanent flashlight)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Volume Trigger<\/span> allows you to snap photos simply by pressing the volume control button on the iPhone while in ProCamera app mode. This makes the iPhone feel\/function like most single purpose &#8220;point and shoot&#8221; cameras. Volume Trigger also offers users the option of taking photos via the earbud (&#8220;headset&#8221;) volume controls. This is a particularly cool function as it allows iPhone users to take pictures &#8220;at arms length&#8221; (length of your earbud cord) without touching the iPhone screen. Previous &#8220;volume trigger&#8221; type functionality deployed in advanced camera apps, had been rejected by Apple. However, ProCamera submitted a variation to Apple that does not compromise the integrity of the iPhone volume controls (iPhone users <em>can<\/em> adjust the volume &#8220;on screen&#8221; while in the ProCamera app) and iPhotography and ProCamera can now enjoy this new method of taking photos.<\/p>\n<p>Volume Trigger technical discussion from Jens D\u00e4mgen, ProCamera Founder &amp; CEO (<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Update 11\/4\/11:<\/span>\u00a0Apple has &#8220;approved&#8221; Update 3.3):<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>*<\/strong> Two APIs:<\/span>\u00a0<em>\u201cThis is something a little tricky right now. Apple had previously not opened this API to advanced camera apps <\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(NOTE: Now that Update 3.3 has been approved, ProCamera is the 1st\/only <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">advanced<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> camera app to offer &#8220;volume trigger&#8221; type functionality)<\/span><em>. Only very simple apps that use a simple API (&#8220;UIImagePickerController&#8221;) support the volume trigger out of the box. Advanced apps that use the complex API (\u201cAVFoundation\u201d) don&#8217;t get access to the hardware buttons the way it is supposed to be.\u00a0The component that most simple apps use just offers a \u2018take a photo\u2019 option, and it cannot do separate focus and exposure, or whitebalance lock whatsoever.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe\u00a0have implemented a workaround-solution, which is \u2018in compliance\u2019 with Apple&#8217;s requirements. The volume is still controllable and the display will show the current volume level, but you can also take a photo by using the volume buttons.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere are \u2018legal\u2019 hacks to get rid of the volume display, but these are &#8216;not pretty&#8217; and I won&#8217;t implement ugly hacks into ProCamera. So the volume control display is a little annoying, but it&#8217;s a \u2018clean\u2019 solution when it comes to coding.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Steady Light<\/span>\u00a0feature is new in Update 3.3 and allows you to shoot photos in dim light or even in complete darkness. With Steady Light you are able to literally brighten up the subject of your photo\u00a0<em>before<\/em>\u00a0using the digital flash. This new feature allows you to fully control the light levels of your picture, even when your\u00a0surroundings are pitch-black. Steady Light makes use of the iPhone&#8217;s digital flashlight mode, and turns the light to on\/off\/auto and, if you desire, can maintain \u201cSteady Light\u201d at all times, no matter flashlight mode selected.<\/p>\n<p>Use\u00a0Steady Light when you need a light in the dark to get your car lock\u00a0open, when you&#8217;re looking for your door-keys, or when you find yourself on a dark path at night and need to know what\u2019s ahead. Steady Light will be used for both practical tasks and creative iPhotography projects. We hope that this new user-friendly tool will become a favorite of ProCamera fans.<\/p>\n<p>Update 3.3 also includes many upgrades:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to 1 hour video recording with iPhone 4 and 4S, iPad2, iPod (2 hours for iPhone 3GS)<\/li>\n<li>Full support for iPhone 4S<\/li>\n<li>Full HD video recording for iPhone 4S<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Everybody who has already purchased ProCamera on the AppStore, of course, gets the 3.3 Update at no cost &#8230; Free!
