Now you can switch on the black and white live preview<\/strong> in the viewfinder to master exposure and achieve perfect contrasts for your monochrome shots. Go to the second page of the control panel to enable the new BW button<\/strong> on the viewfinder.<\/div>\n

Now you can effortlessly export<\/strong> your gain-map HDR photos as ISO-HDR photos<\/strong> in ProCamera\u2019s Editing Studio (10-bit HEIC and 16-bit TIFF formats available).<\/div>\n
Although gain-map HDR is best for compatibility, HDR information can be lost when sharing. That\u2019s where ISO-HDR photos come in handy, as they maintain the high dynamic range on all HDR-capable displays.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

HDR, or High Dynamic Range, is a technology that enhances photo quality by capturing a wider range of light and dark areas, bringing out details that would otherwise be lost. In the past, HDR in camera apps was simulated using tone-mapping<\/strong>, a technique that compresses HDR colors into the smaller SDR color space, which was the only option as displays couldn\u2019t show true HDR.<\/p>\n

With the advent of iOS 17, true HDR support<\/strong> has arrived. HDR photos now come in various formats: SDR photos with an embedded HDR gain map<\/strong> for maximum compatibility, in ProRAW or RAW<\/strong> format with high bit depth, or in true HDR<\/strong> formats like 10bit HEIC or 16bit TIFF. These formats allow for extended dynamic range display on HDR-capable devices.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s important to note that photos taken in vividHDR<\/strong> camera mode, while capturing a higher dynamic range by merging multiple exposures, are saved in SDR after being tone-mapped and thus are not true HDR.<\/p>\n

When viewing HDR photos in ProCamera, you can tell if a photo has HDR information by enabling the EDR button<\/strong> in the photo album. You should see a noticeable difference in the colors and brightness of highlights. Additionally, when exporting photos in the editing studio, you’ll find options to save as ISO-HDR<\/strong> HEIC 10bit and TIFF 16bit.<\/p>\n
